We are offering a very rare pre-war sports bike from BMW. The R17 was one of the fastest sports bikes on the road at the time. It has a wonderful history that started on July 2, 1951 in Salzburg, Austria. On that day, the bike got new vehicle documents from the Austrian traffic authorities, where a picture was attached to the vehicle documents. The frame number S4762 and the engine number 75599 were entered in this vehicle document. The frame was replaced before 1951 with an original BMW replacement frame due to damage. During the exchange, the fictitious new frame number S4762 was assigned. This number can still be seen in the frame today. This conversion was carried out before 1951! The upper engine number 75599 is not original. The lower engine number under the right cylinder is untouched and is 77245 which matches the R17 model. The type plate is missing. The machine was last started in the 1980s and requires careful recommissioning. The R17 spent its entire life in Austria and has been in the possession of the previous owner for almost 40 years. All previous owners are fully documented. The machine has an Austrian vehicle registration document from the 1950s including an original picture of the condition in 1951.
